Some US airlines have begun testing enviromentally friendly fuel. And while the efforts may help the environment, unlike in the European Union, the US government does not force airliners to go green.
The ecological benefits would be undeniable - just one year's avaiation traffic fuelled by bio fuel would equal removing 64,000 cars off the road.
But making the switch can be expensive and there are no long-term plans for companies to use alternative fuel on a regular basis.

kerosene-from-plant-oil technology relates to kerosene-from-coal technology, which dates back to WW2. USAF had quite a headstart in this direction before the green mania had hit.

HEY!
Anyone tell you guys yet that bio fuels produce more CO2 than just burning what comes out of the ground? Don't believe me? Search the term "fermentation".
Also CO2 concentration is only .038% of the atmosphere, good job trying to suffocate plants there environmentalists, anything for the polar bear right?

You certain this isnt just a publicity stunt ? Just like after a natural disaster & all these countries pledge billions in aid but actually never pay up ( google if in doubt ). Though I suspect USAFinterest in alternative fuels is genuine. Napolean said "an army marches on its stomach", well today its driven on its oil tank. As most wars are fought over resources, doeesnt matter how hi tech or how many weapons you have, if you havent got the fuel to power them.

U think if we have proper distribution infrastructure solves food shortage around the world? No. Cambodian and Vietnam did have proper road even thought it is not paved. It would cost a lot of money to distribute food and who is going to pay for the transportation and distribution networks?
Dec 4, 2011 themadhackermatt Says:
You misunderstand my point. There is a lack of food in certain parts of the world, true, but the transportation networks that would enable proper distribution of food to these needy areas are simply not in place. I lament this sorry state of affairs and the seeming lack of international support for a proper infrastructure that would enable distribution of food to places that need it most.

If "We the People" used 6 percent of our arid soil, we could run the entire nations cars, trucks, etc on hemp fuel which produces less than 20% the Co2 than petroleum fuel. The downside is it would also be much cheaper than other fuels which would lower revenue brought in on the taxes compared to petroleum based fuels...I wonder why the powers at be banned hemp use for industrial purposes and created the marijuana prohibition act...

"Cost more crude oil to make Bio fuel"
Depends on the bio fuel.. there's interesting research with sea-weed ATM.
ie Like long lines that go miles out to sea, slowly be reeled in.. looped at the other end.. constant sea weed coming in.. thousands of lines, mops up farm spill fertilizer algae too.
It is then chemically reduced to be more like oil, not just burnt.
Everything in water, wave rocking to pull lines, sun drying adds moisture to air.
Researching planes meantime is good IMO.
