I know
I just wanted to add that to show that one could not just state this or that about a general face shape as it depends on individual structures of the face
I wanted to add that to my comment but I forgot it :)

specific situation...typically, it doesn't work. it all depends on the severity of your face shape, my friend.

I have a square-face and I also have horizontal bangs because my hair styler thought it would be nice to try. I never ever before got so many compliments about how good I look and how well my new hairstyle fits me.

i couldnt tell if my face was round or oval either. but i asked a hair styler and she said my face was considered "oblong" i have straight across bangs. but i want side bans. hopefully ittl work out with my face.

I don't know if I'm oval or heart shaped. Because I did the measurements for an oval face and I fit perfectly, but I definitely don't have a smaller forehead then chin. If anything it's the opposite.

I'm 26 now and have been cutting my own hair since i was 14/15. The only places I know I can trust are in central London and cost a fortune, but my mistrust of provincial hairdressers is so great i have taught myself probably more than they know about changing styles and techniques. This "tutorial" embodies everything I fear about the hairdressers my mother tries to get me to visit whenever I see her.

You just said not to use horizontal bangs on a oval face because they tend to have small foreheads, but then you said not to use horizontal bangs on a round face because it will make them look wider. If this is true for the round face, then shouldn't it be advisable to use horizontal bangs on an oval face to make the small forehead wider?

Is t possible to have a sort of heart-square combination? : D I have a wide forehead and a normal chin, but also high cheekbones and a strong jawline.

I have a round face and Square bangs suits me well (the one that cuts down horizontaly ) . The only thing that do not goes well it's my face profil , cause it's kinda flat... O.o

I have an oval face shape but my forehead is ridiculously huge, and I have a jawline that is very masculine. :/ Maybe mine's oblong, not oval, but I definitely know it's not square. Aghhh. I wish I could have a heart shaped face. :(

FOUR shapes? Ummm...There are seven: Oval, round, oblong, square, diamond, heart, and triangle.
Also, take into consideration your profile and head shape:
Profile: Straight, convex, concave, or sloped.
Head shape: Large, small, pointed (Yes, this exists), flat top, flat crown, flat back.
There are also many other considerations, proportionally, to take into account, body shape, facial features, glasses, etc.

Here's a tip for finding your face shape:
Put your hair up in a pony-tail and using an erasable marker or lipstick, trace your head's shape :)
