She sings this horribly, and it is still so much better than the music these days. A true testament of the extreme talent of Madeline Kahn

one of the best things about this scene is the fact that lily von shtupp sings horribly! but the truth is, madeline kahn has a phenomenal voice and sings like a lark. comedic acting is the hardest to do right....I LOVE YOU MADELINE KAHN!!!!

Compare Madeline Kahn's loose "Dietrich" performance here to the uptight persona she played in "What's Up, Doc?" --the movie that made her famous. Yet that range is NOTHING compared to her rendition of "Glitter and Be Gay," a very difficult operatic soprano solo that be seen here on You Tube (done by M. Kahn). This Leonard Bernstein masterpiece is not only technically difficult but requres strong comedy skills also.

"She very rarely showed it off, but you can find it in nearly all her movies!" It was so rare that (in addition to singing in most of her films), she also sang on television many times and countless times on the Broadway stage. If someone nearly always does something, it isn't rare for them to do it.
She was exceptionally talented as a singer and a comic (and sometimes dramatic) actress, as well as lovely and capable of exuding great sex appeal when she chose.
